How I can help

Architecture design, development team leadership, technical presales and bringing AI into development. You can engage me for any one of these areas, or for all of them from the first concept through to operation.

System architecture

I design architecture around the needs of the specific system: data volume, number of users and expected load, required availability and operating costs. On a smaller project you don't pay for capacity you won't use, and on a larger one I plan for further growth. I document the design in UML diagrams together with the reasoning behind key decisions, so that anyone working on the system can find their way around it.

Development team leadership

I lead teams as a tech lead from requirements to production, with experience in both project and product leadership. I focus on delivering an MVP quickly and working in short iterations. You get a working result early, and the next steps are driven by feedback from real use.

Technical direction

  • architecture and key decisions
  • technical debt: what now, what can wait
  • introducing new technologies and AI into development

Delivery

  • turning business requirements into technical specifications
  • risk management, task prioritisation
  • removing blockers between teams
  • coordinating multiple teams with LeSS (Large-Scale Scrum)

People

  • onboarding and mentoring
  • delegation and growing people
  • conflict resolution and motivation
  • hiring: interviews and assessment

Communication

  • bridge between the team, PM, customer and management
  • reporting on status and risks
  • Tech lead
  • MVP
  • Fast iterations
  • Scrum
  • LeSS
  • Code review

Presales and technical proposals

I work with the customer to clarify what they actually need, and prepare the technical concept, effort estimate and inputs for the proposal. You get a realistic plan, not a promise that falls apart in the first phase.

On-prem and cloud operations

I have experience running systems both on the customer's own infrastructure and in Microsoft Azure. I help choose what makes sense in terms of cost, security and operational requirements. I then deploy and automate the solution, from CI/CD pipelines to identity management.

AI in development: adoption, consulting and training

I help teams bring AI into the entire development process, from analysis and design through implementation and testing to code review and deployment. I set up a secure AI-assisted development process (AI-assisted SSDLC): rules, practices, quality control and the handling of sensitive data. The team then delivers faster without compromising quality or security.

From design to production

I stand behind the technical solution from the first concept in the proposal to the running system. The project manager and the customer have one partner throughout, who designed the solution and can quickly assess the impact of new requirements and changes.

Systems running in production

The examples come from the energy sector, where demands on data volume and reliability are extreme. The same principles apply in IoT, logistics or fintech, wherever large volumes of data are processed.

Forecasting photovoltaic plant output

Challenge

Energy traders needed accurate PV production forecasts to reduce imbalance costs and decide better how much electricity to offer on the day-ahead market and what to balance intraday. They wanted forecasts for many plants in one place, for multiple customers at once, with securely separated data.

Solution

I led the team that built a multi-tenant cloud platform in Microsoft Azure. I designed the integration with forecast aggregation, the GraphQL API and identity management via Entra ID. Development ran as trunk-based development in short iterations.

Automated meter reading and remote meter control

Challenge

A distributor needed to replace manual readings with automated data collection and validation, and to send commands back to the devices.

Solution

On the backend I worked on the reading workflow, integrating new device types over the DLMS/COSEM protocol, and connecting to enterprise systems.

03 / About

Ing. Filip Grepl

I'm a software architect and tech lead. I design systems for large volumes of data, lead the teams that deliver them, and bring AI into the whole development process.

Experience

I graduated from the Faculty of Information Technology at Brno University of Technology. For the past 5 years I have been designing the architecture of systems that process large volumes of data in real time and leading the teams that deliver them. On the largest project that meant three teams, twelve developers in total. Most of my experience comes from the energy sector, from smart meters to PV production forecasting, and I also understand the communication protocols of metering devices such as DLMS/COSEM. My main languages are Java and Kotlin, but I also work with Python and C++. I always choose technology based on the needs of the specific project.

Business and customers

Beyond technology, I enjoy the business side of projects. I like working with customers, contribute to preparing proposals, and thanks to my technical insight I can explain to sales and to the customer what is realistic, at what cost and why. I connect business and technology from the first meeting through individual iterations to operation and further development.

  • > precision

I like things backed by data.

  • > ownership

I see things through to production.

  • > openness

We discuss risks right at the start.
